Best Escape Rooms Are Felt

Can We Enter a Story You Have to Live to Believe?

Learn why the best escape rooms in Columbus, Ohio are felt!

What if an escape room told a story rather than solely asking you to solve a code?

Over the last year, I feel I’ve created a very different experience in Central Ohio that does exactly that.

-Louis, Magic Escape Rooms

Inspired by Thomas Edison’s fascination with the afterlife, I wanted to create a Columbus, Ohio game that was a seamless narrative journey. So, I moved further away from the traditional "puzzle-first" format, focusing primarily upon how the set, props and tasks could serve the story. How could we make every action “feel realistic” to the era?

We all know the rush of a traditional escape room. The door locks, the timer starts counting down from 60 minutes, and your brain kicks into overdrive. It’s a fun race against time. But have you ever finished a room and felt like you just completed a giant worksheet of puzzles and locks? I call this the “puzzle-centric escape room.”

There is a difference between a puzzle room and an immersive adventure. That difference is story. When a narrative is seamless—when every prop, sound cue, and task belongs specifically to that world—the experience transforms. You stop playing a game and start living a story. And experiencing evokes emotion - we feel.

Engaging the Heart and the Head
Standard escape rooms challenge your intellect. Immersive adventures challenge your intellect and engage your emotions. When you are wrapped in a compelling mystery—especially one grounded in real history—the stakes feel different. You aren't just solving a cipher to open a box; you are solving it because a character’s fate, or a historical breakthrough, depends on it. Mystery isn't just something you read on a laminated card; it’s something you “feel” in the atmosphere around you.

The Power of the Present Moment
A truly immersive story doesn't just set the scene and disappear. It unfolds with you. As your team makes connections, the narrative evolves in real-time, keeping you anchored in the present moment. You aren't thinking about your grocery list; you are thinking about what Edison needs right now.

“When you combine high-stakes thought with genuine emotion, you create something powerful. You create deeper, resonant memories with your friends and family that last far longer than the hour you spent inside the room.”
